Students will review universal precautions, specimen requirements, laboratory policies, and veni and capillary punctures. Students will learn from practicing live sticks on each other and mannequins hands to receive required sticks for this program and receive a certificate of completion. Additionally, graduates will be qualified for the optional certification exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) once they complete additional experience which must include a minimum of 30 successful venipunctures and 10 successful capillary sticks. NOTE : This 60 hour program does not include the arranging of an externship on behalf of students nor does CCTC promise any student, that they will be able to receive a minimum of 30 successful venipunture and 10 successful capillary sticks while attending CCTC Phlebotomy Program. Although not required to work as a Phlebotomy Technician, students that wish to pursue a externship rotation for more experience or to obtain the minimum sticks required by NHA should contact local health care organizations to arrange their personal externship schedule.
